SunFed Produce, based in Arizona, initiated the recall for cucumbers sold between October 12 and November 26, as reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The cucumbers in question were fresh, whole American cucumbers, distributed by SunFed and other importers to consumers in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Consumers who purchased cucumbers within this timeframe should contact the store where the cucumbers were bought to confirm whether their purchase is part of the recall.

“As soon as we learned of this issue, we immediately acted to protect consumers. We are working closely with authorities and the implicated ranch to determine the possible cause,” said Craig Slate, president of SunFed. “Here at SunFed, food safety and consumer health and wellness have been our priorities for more than 30 years. We require all of our growers to strictly comply with the FDA food safety requirements.”

No illnesses related to the cucumbers have been reported at this time.

Costco Egg Recall

In a separate recall, Handsome Brook Farms voluntarily pulled nearly 11,000 cartons of Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs sold under Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand.

The eggs, which were sold in Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee beginning November 22, were recalled after the company discovered that eggs not intended for retail distribution had been mistakenly packaged and sold. The recall specifically affects cartons with the UPC code 9661910680, labeled with Kirkland Signature, and marked with the Julian code 327 and a Use By date of January 5, 2025, located on the side of the carton. No other products are impacted by this recall.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the eggs.

The company has advised affected consumers to stop consuming the eggs and return the recalled cartons to their local Costco for a full refund, or dispose of the product.

Salmonella infection can result in symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, which typically appear within six hours to six days after consuming the bacteria. While most people recover within a week without treatment, those at higher risk—such as young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems—may experience more severe illness.

Earlier this year, a different salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers affected 450 people across the U.S.
